| De-clutter and Feel Better |
By Palika Trudeau, MA
Feng Shui and Vastu works on the concept that everything is connected energetically. Your thoughts, feelings as well as your behavior are strongly influenced by your surroundings. Adapting these principles in your place of dwelling can greatly enhance the quality of your life.
From a Feng Shui point of view, home improvement is about creating space for energy to flow more efficiently. Many businessmen are investing large sums of money to create an energy efficient environment. What are the results? Not only does it look and feel nicer but it increases the flow of prosperity in their businesses as well.
Now reflect on your home. Have you ever had moments in your life when you realized that you have a whole store in your garage? Do you feel overwhelmed by the state of the house? How much effort does it take to keep your residence in order?
Each item that you have takes an allotted amount of room, but if too much space is occupied by things, it may start infringing on your peace of mind. On one hand, we keep items because we feel comforted by the fact that all the necessities of life are at an arms reach away. But on the other hand, too much accumulated stuff leaves us feeling claustrophobic – causing us to feel overwhelmed without understanding why. Simplify by reorganizing, and removing clutter.
When you remodel, or buy new furniture, make sure that it leaves space for the energy to flow and allow the inherent beauty of the environment to shine through.
Not only is space beautiful but also it is easier to maintain. I am sure that you have visited a big house, but it was filled up with too much furniture and accessories to fully appreciate the natural beauty of the environment.
The home is a special designated place to relax and rejuvenate as a family and as individuals. Based on this principle, when you refresh your living area for the spring, ask yourself this question: Is peace of mind the hidden cost of having too many items in your household? If the answer is yes, take action.
1. Re-arranging and de-clutter. Use this effort as an opportunity to experience connection with yourself and those in your household.
2. Work together to decide what is valuable and what is not needed.
3. Have fun! Make a game out of getting rid of the extra stuff.
4. Experience the newfound pleasure of having less things and more openness.
